April 4, 2024: Residents are advised that there have been multiple reports of raccoons in the neighborhood. Sightings include:
- A large raccoon with what appeared to be an injured leg approaching homes during the day
- The raccoon came up to doors on North Park and went behind homes on East Park
- This bold daytime behavior in raccoons could indicate potential rabies infection or aggression
Raccoons are typically nocturnal animals, so raccoons actively approaching homes in the daytime raises concern. Additionally, this is raccoon nesting season when they may seek entry to attics/vents. Please also seal any potential entry points to prevent raccoons from nesting in your attic or home vents this spring. Remain alert and use precaution when outdoors.
For your safety, DO NOT approach any raccoons. If you have a raccoon on your property that is acting abnormally or appears sickly/injured, call animal control. Do not wait for a bite to occur. Newtown Township provides animal control services when necessary. If you require such services, please contact the police department non-emergency line at (215) 328-8524.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our neighborhood safe.
